At a glance
Nathan Smith, PT, MPT is a licensed physical therapist at Encore Physical Therapy, 2609 NW 9th Street, Corvallis, Oregon. He sees patients for orthopedic, sports, and post-surgical physical therapy. Encore is a direct-access clinic, accepts Medicare and most commercial insurance, and can typically schedule an evaluation within a couple of weeks. Call (541) 758-2235.
The MPT after Nathan's name stands for Master of Physical Therapy, the graduate degree required for licensure as a physical therapist. The PT means he is licensed to practice in Oregon, which is what allows him to evaluate you, diagnose the movement problem behind your symptoms, and treat you without a physician's referral.
If Nathan is your therapist, your first visit is an evaluation with him directly, not an intake handed off to someone else. He'll ask what's hurting, what you've already tried, and what you're actually trying to get back to, whether that's a full workday, a return to the trail, or standing through a grandchild's soccer game. Then he'll test how the joint and the surrounding tissue move under load, and explain what he finds in language you can repeat to your doctor or your spouse.
From there, the plan is his and yours together. Hands-on manual therapy, prescribed exercise you do in the clinic and at home, and modalities like heat, cold, or ultrasound when they help reduce pain and inflammation. If your symptoms aren't changing, the plan changes. That's how our whole team works, and it's the practical version of what we mean when we say we don't chase symptoms, we teach people about their bodies.
