Encore Physical Therapy

An Independent Physical Therapy Clinic in Corvallis Since 2009

Encore Physical Therapy is a privately owned physical therapy clinic at 2609 NW 9th Street in Corvallis, Oregon, founded in 2009 by Chris Guempel, PT, MPT, who has practiced physical therapy since 2001. Five clinicians treat orthopedic, neurological, post-surgical, sports, and balance conditions. Patients can self-refer, and evaluations can typically be scheduled within a couple of weeks.

Referral

Encore is a direct access clinic. In Oregon you can usually start physical therapy without a doctor's referral, so you can call us first.

Insurance

We accept Medicare and most commercial insurance, and cash pay is available. Call and our team will check your plan.

Getting scheduled

Reception aims to get back to you within a business day to get you scheduled.

About Encore

Chris Guempel opened Encore Physical Therapy in 2009, eight years after he started practicing. He gave himself those years first, working on evaluation and treatment skills and getting a feel for what patients in this community actually needed, before putting his name on a clinic on NW 9th Street.

The idea he opened with still runs the place. We don't chase symptoms. We teach people about their bodies and practice evidence-based care, which means you should leave your first visit understanding what's going on and what the plan is.

The practice grew as the work did. Kathy Lynch, PT, DPT brought a Doctor of Physical Therapy and continuing education in cervical, lumbopelvic and sports injuries. Nathan Smith, PT, MPT treats alongside the rest of the clinical team. Physical therapist assistants Tiesha Oare and Aaron Nobiletti came on to carry each plan of care day to day, Tiesha in 2020. Five clinicians work here now, and the clinic is still privately owned.

What hasn't changed is how a visit works. A licensed physical therapist performs your evaluation, and you see familiar faces through your plan of care rather than a new person each visit.

“Came in with really debilitating sciatic pain and left with my mobility and sleep returned to me. So grateful to Chris and Aaron for all their work with me!”

What's Different Here

Access within weeks

We can typically schedule an evaluation within a couple of weeks rather than three or four months. Pain that waits usually gets more complicated.

One-on-one evaluation

A licensed physical therapist performs your exam and builds the plan with you, around what you're trying to get back to.

A real treatment repertoire

Prescriptive exercise in the clinic and at home restores flexibility and strength. Heat or cold early on reduces pain and inflammation. Ultrasound (deep heat delivered by sound waves) or electrical stimulation may be used to calm pain or improve muscle activity. Our manual therapy draws on Maitland, McKenzie, Kaltenborn, Mulligan, Strain Counterstrain, Muscle Energy, and methods from the North American Institute of Manual Therapy. What you get depends on what works for you.

Room for people who want to stay active

Preventing Injuries, Not Just Treating Them

Kathy Lynch, PT, DPT also owns Helix Training, a strength and conditioning gym on NW 9th Street in Corvallis. It's the other half of the same commitment: helping people build the strength, balance and confidence that keep injuries from happening, not only treating them once they do. Coaches run small classes, personal training and an intro program called Strong Foundations, with programming that starts where each member is.

The PTCH Podcast

Kathy Lynch, PT, DPT co-hosts The PTCH Podcast with chiropractor Jason Young, DC: the PT and the CH in the name. Each episode takes a health claim people hear all the time and asks better questions about it, with guests from sports, entertainment and health care.

It matters because a lot of health advice ages badly. The show sorts what holds up from what only sounds right, in plain and often funny language, so you can make better decisions about your own body.
